JOHN STEZKAKER
in John Stezkaker's work he creates his collages with old secondary photographs sourced from postcards and magazines. Stezkakers work juxtaposes relationships between two people such as a married couple. in his work he tends to match up the photo's faces by using half of each photo to create a split portrait usually lining up the noses and lips. in his work he tends to use two different genders especially in his marriage series, this creates more of a disjointed image and the contrast and difference of the two portraits is very prominent. |
MY WORK
in my work i created my collages using two sets of photographs; secondary photographs from my grandmothers personal photo collection, and my own photographs. My juxtaposition in my work was showing the contrast of a past portrait of my grandmother compared to a current photograph. when creating my split portraits i used all parts of both the photographs and instead of matching up the features i chose pictures that related to each other such as both pictures expressing a smile or laugh, i then cut up the old photographs to place them on top of the new photographs to explore the idea of the old revealing the new. |
