Photograph your subject in a location that holds some personal significance or ask your subject to hold a /several personal objects then remove the face. Look at E.J. Bellocq's photographs of prostitutes.
23/01/18 Simplify films: Keep Mum and Aunt Mum on her own Diary voice over Projections Lose Music Footage of mum reading / writing Add Sound: beach / waves crashing Sounded like white noise was irritating to listen to or was too soft and relaxing and sounded fake. Extra: Prints of images that have been scratched into. Experiment with scratching images into prints.
29/11/17 The fact that the images portrait time in your mums life when their was no father figure is an interesting idea to explore. Your decision may have been an unconscious one but the fact that these images have been projected onto a male figure is significant. Consider what emotions are linked to this work and think about possible projecting words and emotions onto the face of your mum and / or aunt.Project diary entries from the time her emotions and feelings think about the image that shows the new male entering the picture and what that may mean for your projections and choice of model. Alternatively you could have the diary entries read out and recorded to be played alongside the projections.
Get the postcards that your grandma wrote at the time also if possible see if there is a diary that she wrote so you can compare and contrast theses with our Mum memories.
old camera used to create new images new memories made on old camera 23/11/17 Consider the idea that is written below consider the idea of memories fading as a person walks across or interacts with them you could also film with a cinecam or try using the old school cameras that are in the studio. 13/11/17 Another set of still projections with more than one person. THEN Project photos into rooms: some with people in, some without. Have real people recreating the moment, interacting or not. Moving images- film.
9/11/17 Look at the work of Davis Ayer in particular his time travel series make comparisons between your work and his photography. To develop the idea further continue with the projections and having multiple subjects within the frame. Consider creating a video of the projections as they change on the persons body. Consider the idea of memory and as well as changing the projection change the person in mid projection. Could you also experiment with focus some parts out of focus symbolising the fading of memories.
